About the Author: Elise Lahiere

I am a Doctoral Candidate in the Mathematics Education Ph.D. program at Montclair State University, where I earned my Bachelor's in Mathematics and my Master's in Statistics. I have always been interested in the field of education, and explore this passion through teaching and research. I continuously look for ways to improve instruction, both through pedagogy and technology, and constantly strive to improve my abilities as an educator.

I am currently a Coordinator for Quantitative Reasoning in the Center for STEM Excellence at Eastern Kentucky University. In this role I work closely with Learning Assistants, who are themselves undergraduate students, preparing them to assist other undergraduates with their coursework. In addition to providing professional development, I also coordinate and develop initiatives, which provide support to students as they navigate foundational quantitative courses.

Before coming to EKU, I worked as a Course Coordinator at Montclair State University in the Red Hawk Math Active Learning Center for eight years. My responsibilities varied greatly, but mainly focused on teaching, content development, providing multiple forms of support for students, and training tutors and graduate assistants.

Besides working as a research assistant, I am part of a research group of doctoral students, working on two projects which focus on mathematical modeling with pre-service teachers. I am also in the beginning phase of my dissertation, developing my theoretical framework and literature review.
